our mission   client feedback

Our Mission at Brown Dog is to deliver complete customer satisfaction through excellence in design, craftsmanship
and project management

Brown Dog Construction did an excellent job with our kitchen remodel.  They were able to strike a perfect balance
between listening to my needs and coming up with excellent suggestions to give me helpful ideas.  I felt they always listened to me and respected my input.  Everyone was patient, kind and friendly to me and my children.  Throughout the project, I was kept up to speed on what was going on and what the outcome would be; there never were any ‘surprises’.  Over the years we have had to endure ten remodels and this was the first time I can say it actually was a pleasant experience.

Sincerely,
Angie

To:  Brown Dog Construction,

I would like to comment on my recently completed Deck Cover project.
My wife and I have been very pleased with the entire project, from the initial consultation and evaluation of what we wanted to build, to the final completion and inspection of the job.
We were very pleased with the level of detail in the written estimate and the preliminary drawings, and in the way the project was explained.
When the project was underway, it was quite apparent that we had selected the right company to do the job.  It was noticeable that your crew had an honest interest in the work that went beyond just “getting it done”.  Also the daily job-site clean up and attention to not harming our existing landscaping showed a high level of professionalism that we very much appreciated.
Toward the completion of the job we were very pleased with the additional things done at no extra charge, i.e. installing a ceiling fan and the extra electrical work.
We would not hesitate to recommend Brown Dog Construction to anyone in need of a contractor for any high-quality home improvement project.
Thanks, again, to Joe and the crew,
Ron & Suzie

Brown Dog Construction presented us with a task analysis plan associated with the best practices of many industrial
corporations.  These documents included a three color spreadsheet and calendar identifying the tasks to be accomplished each day by the contractor, sub-contractors, and our obligations.  Based on the plan produced by Brown Dog, we faced few surprises, anticipated deadlines, and met sub-contractors at the appointed date. Although we assumed this was the method used by present day contractors, we quickly learned that these extensive details stunned our friends who faced disappointing results from their contractors.

Brown Dog Construction promised a start date of November 5, 2007; amazingly the crew of Brown Dog arrived at 8:00 a.m. on 11/5/07!  Over the next nine months the employees of Brown Dog Construction provided our family, our home and our budget with total accountability.  In addition to the detailed schedule, we had weekly meetings with Joe and his site manager to discuss any changes and the next steps.
There was hardly a more pervasive theme in the business practices of Brown Dog Construction than respect; that is respect for their customer, their employees, resources, our environment and their commitment to extraordinary craftsmanship. Joe’s interaction with his employees and subcontractors demonstrated one of the most important lessons in business: treat your employees as your most important asset and the rewards will follow.  In this instance, the reward is a top quality product and impressive results.

Sincerely,
Stephen & Margaret

We contracted with Brown Dog Construction in the spring of 2007 to build three decks at our home on Signal
Mountain.  Two of the old decks were in bad shape, having been built in 1969.  The third was barely a deck, serving more as a surround for a stagnant fish pond which had previously been a hot tub.  Two of the decks were not in line with the building code (unsafe railings.)  Since we are situated on the brow of the mountain, we wanted attractive and safe decks which would permit us to enjoy the panoramic view.

As we had only hazy ideas for design of the decks, we were fortunate that Joe Burke understood what we wanted and knew how to implement it.  He is a highly professional person who combines practicality with creative insight.  We received detailed drawings of each deck and costs to the penny.  He led us through selection of lumber, lights, stain and other elements of design. Together with Joe, we explored different choices for these elements and were given wise advice as to selection. No detail was neglected.
Brown Dog Construction was fastidious in clean-up as they had stated; materials were set out safely and neatly and disposed of quickly after construction ended.  There were no “loose ends” to this project.  Unlike an earlier remodeling of part of our home by another contractor, we did not have to pick up paper coffee cups, cigarette butts and lunch time litter – Brown Dog staff respected their work space and our yard.
We look forward to congratulating Brown Dog Construction on receiving the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Award.

In 2007, we constructed a home on property in Jamestown, Tennessee adjacent to the Big South Fork National
Park.  BDC designed the kitchen, built the cabinets here, transported them to the site and then installed the whole kitchen in three days!

During the design phase, Joe spent hours asking us questions about how we work in the kitchen, how we cook, how meals are served and how we entertain to get a grasp of what we needed.  He helped us design cabinets that accommodate all of our food and equipment storage needs and a floor plan that works with as many cooks and helpers as we can recruit!
Once the design was ready, Joe prepared a detailed estimate of the project.  Each aspect of the job was assigned a cost.  With such a specific line item estimate, we could look at the choices we had made and determine whether we wanted to make changes based on costs.  After we agreed on the estimate, Joe prepared a contract.  He explained that if we made changes to the contract during the construction process, changes would be written up and signed by all parties. As a result, we always knew exactly what the project was going to cost. This procedure was different from experiences we have had with other projects where the estimate sometimes bears no resemblance to the final cost of the construction.
Our cabinets look like fine furniture and are extremely well built.  BDC constructed the cabinets in box-like units.  We have never had a problem with mice getting in any of the kitchen drawers, cabinets or pantry.  We bless BDC every time we open a drawer or cabinet door and find the contents neat and clean.
We love our kitchen in the woods so much that BDC will soon be remodeling our kitchen here on Signal Mountain! We trust BDC.  We have recommended BDC to our friends without hesitation.  Joe Burke and his crew are professional, honest and courteous.  They deliver a high-quality finished product that will last a lifetime.

We have had an on-going business relationship with BDC since August 2006 and  offer absolutely no reservation in
stating that our family would recommend this company 100%.
From the moment Joe Burke entered our home to begin helping up plan for an extensive kitchen renovation,  we knew that there would be no problem in trusting Mr. Burke, or his employees in our home.  Unlike our experiences with other contractors, BDC has shown consistent reliability with regard to timeliness, accountability, honesty, and respect for both the home owner's time and property.
The philosophy of BDC appears to include engaging the customer with extensive planning and consultation time, such that there really is a true partnership in remodel design between the expertise of the Brown Dog contractors and the client.  Our first, and lasting impression when we met Joe Burke is that we were doing business with an experienced professional.  Our impression of all of the BDC employees is that they are truly skilled professionals who value not only the work they do, but also value the BDC company and owner, Joe Burke.
Full disclosure appears to be valued by BDC.  Once our project had been discussed, Joe Burke was able to return with an extremely comprehensive spread sheet, such that nearly every  detail was itemized and accounted for. We trust that BDC is consistently accurate in their estimates and honest with their accounting.
Over the past three years we have engaged Brown Dog Construction in several home and community projects.  Each time, we are assured that BDC arrives for the estimate with the consistent professionalism we have come to know.  Never before have we opened our home with such confidence to a contracting company.  During our kitchen remodel, we felt confident enough to leave our home and family dogs in the care of BDC while we were out of town.
Perhaps the greatest attribute of BDC is their ability to listen to the client, and then creatively problem solve a solution.  At each opportunity, we were impressed with BDC's ability to think outside the traditional box, and create a tailored design to meet our needs.

Sincerely,
Lisa and Eric
